As of this writing, in 2023, it serves as my artistic\u003cbr\u003emission statement and musical manifesto.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eConceived and created at all stages in collaboration with Adam Pietrykowski – also known as the progpop\u003cbr\u003eartist Van Tilburg – it is our response to the hypothesis: what if we took metal-influenced classical\u003cbr\u003emusic and produced it as we would a modern prog metal record?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCalibrating Friction brings together five of my most metal-infused compositions from the past decade\u003cbr\u003eand reimagines (recalibrates?) them from this perspective of bone-deep fusion. Originally created as\u003cbr\u003epieces of pure chamber music, to be performed live, in concert, by classical ensembles, they all contained\u003cbr\u003ethe musical elements of progressive metal in their structures and instrumental writing, but – for the most\u003cbr\u003epart – using only the sounds of (acoustic) classical instruments. For this album, Adam and I have taken\u003cbr\u003eall this music apart, reconstructing it piece by piece in the studio the way we would were we producing\u003cbr\u003ea modern metal record.
