Commissioned by the Gaudete Brass Quintet in 2010, this suite of arrangements for Brass Quintet re-imagines the classic Christmas carols Go Tell It On The Mountain, Away in a Manger, and Silent Night. Opening the collection with a joyful fanfare, Go Tell It features a prominent trombone solo, jaunty mixed meter, and light-hearted articulation. Away in a Manger imagines the Quintet as several smaller pairings of duets; a lyrical tuba line anchors this gentle, reflective movement. Silent Night’s richly textured re-harmonization closes the collection with a warm glow.
