Francisco (Paco) Estévez is a Spanish composer who gained recognition for his avant-garde and electronic work during the 1970s. He trained in classical composition techniques at Darmstadt under Olivier Messiaen, Luigi Nono, Iannis Xenakis, and Mauricio Kagel, and performed with Florian Schneider and Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk. He holds degrees and has received awards in Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands. As a composer, Estévez has received numerous national and international composition awards and has represented Spain at the UNESCO Festival and the SIMC Festivals in Germany and Israel. Paco has formed and directed numerous musical ensembles spanning styles from avant-garde electronic performance to sacred choral music. A biography and preliminary catalogue of his works was published in 2016 by Nathan Thatcher. Estévez is currently retired following a long career in pedagogy and lives and composes outside Madrid.
