for solo trumpet and concert band

Nightscape/Daybreak is inspired by the Georgia O’Keeffe painting Radiator Building at Night (1927). The concerto is divided into two movements: Nightscape and Daybreak. The first movement, Nightscape, is an incantation and depicts the painting as it is: the nightline of a building illuminated by stark vertical columns of floodlights. The second movement, Daybreak, imagines what the building and city would be like during the day, as the city awakes and the streets begin to bustle with people. The Daybreak movement may be performed separately as a stand-alone piece.
