TIMETILT, Jennifer Oliverio (2026) 9'30"
for two trumpets and string orchestra or piano reduction

TIMETILT was commissioned by internationally recognized trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden and the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra for two trumpets and strings in the fall of 2026. Along with Mary, the premiere of this work will also feature MSO’s principal trumpet player, Bryan Reeves. This quirky duo was written using inspiration from Vivaldi’s double trumpet concerto and features scalar interplay, frequent mixed meter, a nostalgic middle section, and a spicy-fun ending. When writing this piece I tried to emulate the idea of time being stolen, like a brief hiccough in the flow of the piece. I aimed to accomplish this through the use of ⅞ time signatures, unpredictably paced cadence points, free-time cadenza material, and a few empty measures to help build the anticipation.

Instrumentation:

  • Orchestral version: Trumpet 1-2 in C, violin 1-2, viola, cello, bass
  • Piano reduction: Trumpet 1-2 in C, piano
