About the Work
Duration: 11'
Instrumentation: Soprano and Chamber Orchestra (2.2.2.2/2.2.1.0/timp.2 perc/hp/str)
The only thing I miss is the rain:
We used to run around like children
translucent, transcendent.
When the clouds past, a moonlit mist
clothed us as we lost ourselves
in skin: "I am home."
I had no time to grieve him.
No time to mop up the blood.
No time to bury him... no time.
We flew - mija y yo.
For our hearts' sake, we couldn't
stop. Not once would we dare.
The price of our flight was
everything our arms could carry
and the taste of coyote flesh
And baptism by sweat
And the cries of “LA MIGRA!”
And blindness by headlight.
--- (remembering) ---
Mijita looks up at me,
"¿A dónde nos llevan?"
"No sé, nena, pero
We will stay together.
Te quiero. I love you
so much. So much."
--- (in the present) ---
Give me my child.
No obtendrás una lagrimita más de mí.
Give me my child!
I have walked a desert
For my daughter to live a life
I could only dream of.
Lloveré en este infierno!
--- (it starts to rain) --
Ah! God weeps for me.
I miss so much more than the rain,
But I'd do this all again por mija.
She is here so I am home.
I am here so I am home.
"No obtendrás una lagrimita más de mí." - "You won't get one more teardrop out of me." "Lloveré en este infierno!" - "I will rain on this hell!"
