Glimmering Labyrinth, for string quartet and harp

Create musically the mystical picture of the labyrinth in Glimmering Labyrinth. Written for string quartet plus harp, composer Lilyanne Leccima explores this inner gemstone world through musical influences of Black diasporic music, contemporary progressive rock, and the Phrygian Mode. This allows the listener to hear the music as "the ethereal light of luminescent gemstones peering through cracks in the walls."

The accompanying curriculum guides provides ready-made lesson plans that invite students to experiment with improvisation and the various extended techniques found in the piece. The guide also includes short lessons that provide introductory explorations of the Phrygian Mode, distinctions between melodic vs. harmonic voicing, and listening activities featuring Black Diasporic music excerpts.
