i want to be a pindrop

I once saw a friend perform John Luther Adams’ piece The Mathematics of Resonant Bodies. I struggle to describe the experience of being indoors as someone slowly-ever so slowly-revved up a hand-cranked air raid siren, gradually building to a fortissimo which seemed to make my sinuses resonate and bordered on pain in spite of my hands clasped over my earplug-stuffed ears, and then slowly-ever so slowly–-wind back down to an almost imperceptible guttural croak. I was shattered by the potent simplicity of the piece (the air raid siren bit was just one movement, but it was the whole movement). I wanted to make something that felt as natural. This piece is almost certainly not that, but it was written in direct response to Adams’ piece. i want to be a pindrop is composed of simple attacks separated by numbers of beats dictated by a sequence of the first 12 prime numbers. The rhythms, structure, and some other parameters of all three movements were composed algorithmically and I found the result more than satisfying material to compose further. I hope the performer also finds it something satisfying to interpret further.
