Star Gaze was written for my husband, tenor horn/trumpet player Patrick Oliverio for his debut solo album. It was written in dedication to our son Benjamin, whose favorite family activity is stargazing at night in our back yard.
Star Gaze is the lyrical embodiment of nostalgia and wistfulness. While repetitive and simple harmonically, the melody gives space to showcase the expression and heart of the musicians performing it. Thank you to Kristy Mezines for sharing your feedback and expertise on the piano score.
