Violin Sonata No. 2
Duration: 10'
Instrumentation: Unaccompanied violin
Jake Landau, Violin Sonata No. 2 (2015) 10'
for unaccompanied violin
Coincidentally, my second violin sonata, like my first one, had its first movement written years before its others. After putting the “Rhapsody” movement aside for almost a decade, I found I had a lot more to say about these musical materials. I attribute this to the abstract nature of this and my first sonata, each of which could more easily go by a title made up of notes than by words. Devoid of a real “program”, these notes remained as ripe as they ever were, one of the many reasons I gravitate towards names like “Violin Sonata No. 2”.
