Present Tense, Eric Nathan (2012) 5'
for chamber orchestra
“Present Tense” is constructed around a musical line that runs throughout much of the piece, passing between instruments of the ensemble. In writing the work, I imagined the members of the orchestra working together in carrying this musical thread, but also working independently, as some instruments join in only briefly, and then continue on their own. Motifs from this main musical line continually reappear under different guises and in different surroundings. “Present Tense” was composed as part of the 2011 Aldeburgh Music Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme and revised for performance with the Britten-Pears Ensemble at the 2012 Aldeburgh Festival.
Instrumentation: 1.1.1.1/1.1.1.0/1 perc/hp.pno/1.1.1.1.1
Orchestral performance parts are available via rental.
