A limitless universe of equilibrium shrouded within deep thought, Josh Trentadue (2022) 4'
for alto saxophone and fixed media electronics

Inspired by the surrealism of Twin Peaks, as well as the art of meditation, this piece functions as a deconstructed dance of sorts. The saxophonist lingers on a waltz that teeters between hesitancy and certainty, represented in the use of the irregular 5/4 meter against the more commonly traditional triple meter (in this case, 3/4 is used). Additionally, this part ebbs and flows alongside an electronic track that conjures an ambient and meditative, yet surreal and unusual, soundscape. As is often the case when dreaming, moments appear and exist, then disappear, whether gradually or suddenly. Some moments linger in memory for a brief while - others are long forgotten and ultimately left behind. Somewhere within all of this, balance can eventually be found (and perhaps achieved), though this is not always the case.

My sincerest gratitude to Joshua Thomas for commissioning this piece.
