Moon Dream

Moon Dream (2020) was written for Andy Hall, saxophonist of Latitude 49, for the ensemble’s collaborative bagatelles project in support of the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts. This project was conceived during a turbulent and exhausting year, and it is from that perspective that the idea for this piece sprung. As I began to sketch this miniature, I realized that I wanted to write what I personally and perhaps many others at this time had needed for months: a lullaby, a song of hope, something to remind me of the beauty and goodness hiding around us in the everyday. I hope that for listeners, Moon Dream will be a minute of calm, a tiny glimpse of joy, a moment to float on a fleeting wave of sonic serenity.
