String Quartet No. 4: Aftermath, Haralabos [Harry] Stafylakis (2018) 19'

In 2017, I visited the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City. It was an emotionally charged experience to see the relics of large-scale destruction in person, to hear the stories of individuals who suffered and lived through the event, and of those who didn’t. My own memories from that morning were stirred up, watching on a television screen miles away, in another city, as the horror unfolded. The shock of sudden, willful violence; the daze of fear and awe in the aftermath; and the slow, years-long period of rebuilding and renewal, both literal and psychological.

This piece too, then, is in its small way a memorial.
