Miho Sasaki

From Chiba City, Japan - composer / pianist / teacher

Ms. Sasaki's music has been commissioned and performed by the American Pianists Association, Conservatorio Superior de Música Félix Tomás Garzón, Córdoba (Argentina), the Indiana Wind Symphony, Trinity University (TX), the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Superkenbansisters piano duo (Japan), the Columbian Embassy in Tokyo chamber music series, Thomas Piercy (clarinet) founder of "Tokyo to New York" concert series, Bargemusic (Brooklyn, NY), bassoonist Lia Uribe, saxophonist Gail Levinsky, Japanese pianist Nana Omori, Music by Women Festival (Mississippi University), the Finger Lakes NY Summer Chamber Music Festival, and a five year international commissioning project by pianist Susanne Kessel (Bonn, Germany) commemorating the 250th birthday of Beethoven. Sasaki's work Sanshisuimei, recently published by Editions Musica Ferrum (London), was commercially recorded by Ms. Kessel in 2020. Her choral music is published by Colla Voce, Inc.

Ms. Sasaki was the featured guest artist for a recital of new American piano music at Aichi Prefectural University of Music and Fine Arts and Nagoya Imperial University in Nagoya, Japan. Further guest artist residencies include NOW Music Festivals (OH), Back Cove Contemporary Music Festival at the Portland Conservatory of Music (ME), the Fort Smith (AR) Symphony, The Generous Ensemble (CT), University of Connecticut (2019) and the Butler University Wind Ensemble.

In 2017 Ms. Sasaki was awarded the prestigious "Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship" from the Arts Council of Indianapolis - a highly competitive program, a 2-year grant supporting various creative activities. Sasaki's activities include learning accordion and bayan (for performance and writing multiple compositions) and creating a "serious music" accordion culture in central Indiana.

Her large orchestral work, Sacrosanct (2018), originally commissioned by the Capital Symphony Orchestra, was commercially recorded by the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic) in 2021, for release on Ablaze Records.

Ms. Sasaki holds an M.M. from Butler University's School of Music in Indianapolis. Ms. Sasaki has studied piano with Hiromi Iwadate (Jp), Anna Yow Briscoe, Panayis Lyras, Andrew Russo, and music composition with Hifumi Shimoyama, Elliott Schwartz, Michael Schelle. She performed Schelle's Wright Flight, a work that is recorded on Albany Records, as a soloist across the US and for a two-week concert tour in China.
